Brief
The project aimed to create a harmonious and accessible 2,245-metre walkway over an 8-metre deep raised bog. We constructed a gravel walkway and a timber boardwalk that blend seamlessly with the natural environment, preserving the bog’s beauty.
Key features include a 365-meter timber boardwalk with 10 stream crossings, ensuring stability, safety, and minimal environmental impact. Materials were selected that complement the bog’s natural tones and textures: durable timber for the boardwalk and compatible gravel for the walkway.
Throughout construction, Brackley’s focus was on protecting the sensitive bog ecosystem by minimizing disturbances and choosing sustainable, low-impact materials.

This project was taken from design through to completion, involving the following:
- A 3D landscape model to detail the works to be completed and visualize level changes within the project.
- Construction of a gravel walkway, providing a durable and aesthetically pleasing path across the site.
- Construction of a timber boardwalk approximately 2,245 meters in length, ensuring sturdy and reliable access over the raised bog.
- Construction of 10 stream crossings integrated into the timber boardwalk, designed for stability and minimal environmental impact.
